However, as a die-hard fan of the series I have to say that the manga is excellent (and by many considered superior), and that the series is adapted from a visual novel. Now this is if you want to go the anime-only route. I would like to put a warning label on the first episode of Kira, and say that if that happens to not be your cup of tea, you I'd still recommend checking out the others if you have already come that far. That being said, if you cannot come by Rei I'd say you're still good to watch the new series after the two main seasons.įor the rest is more in the case of you wanting more, but go in with tempered expectations. This is the "story" of Higurashi, and what I would recommend to check out before the new series. If you want to watch just the "necessary" stuff then it would be the two main seasons, and preferably episode 2-4 of Rei. When They Cry: Kaku - Outbreak- Double episode / Movie. When They Cry: Kira - Anniversary OVA.When They Cry: Nekogoroshi-hen - Optional. When They Cry - First season, 26 episodes.Going with the english titles, Depending on where you search you may want to type Higurashi: When They Cry or Higurashi no Naku koro ni. I see that you got an answer on 'where' to watch, so I won't go into that, but I thought I'd help out with the order. It really depends on where you live - in my case the first season is available on Netflix (though I see that in US, UK and CA it is not). Apologies in advance for the wall of text, I tried to make it concise.
